Lies We Believe

  1. "I'm fat."

  1. "I'm ugly."

We all have said this about ourselves at some point in life. I know I have said both of these. To be completely honest, I even say these things now. I always go through days where I feel like I am one, two, or both. I know that you feel the same way. But listen, just because I think these things (sometimes) doesn’t make me act on them. These are just your feelings and your opinion. Our feelings change all the time. One day you feel beautiful and the next you feel gross. We all experience this. The reason why I don’t act on my feelings is because I know that these two feelings are lies straight from the pit.  Let me ask you a question. When you walk up to the mirror do you ever think about how Satan might be standing behind you? I am not trying to scare you, but I want you to realize that every time you look at your reflection, Satan always tries to go with you.

He stands next to you and whispers in your ear, “You’re ugly and fat. You need to stop eating. You need to spend all your money on plastic surgery or buy a lot more makeup.” Does any of this sound familiar to you? It does to me.

He wants more than anything to tell you these lies and tempt you to believe them. Here is something to chew on for a minute: Satan ultimately desires for you to die not knowing Jesus as your personal Savior. One of his biggest tactics in women’s lives is to tell them that they are fat. Now if the woman believes what he says, she stops eating, and then she dies from malnutrition, then he gets what he wants. You can only serve one God. When you become anorexic, your body takes the place of Jesus in your life. You become more consumed with your own body then Jesus.  Here is what you need to do. Next time you gaze into the mirror, don’t let Satan come with you. Repeat this:

I will praise You (God), for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. (PSalm 139:14)

God made you just the way you are and He made you beautiful. You don’t need the assurance of other people to make you beautiful. Guys who are genuinely attracted to you will not be based on how skinny you are or how your glow comes from a bottle. God has the most amazing man already picked out for you. He created him and He created you specifically for this man. It won’t matter what you look like or what your pant size is. God made you a man who will love you just the way you are. You are exquisite and beautiful. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Now instead of stressing over these lies, listen to Jesus and go spend time in front of the mirror of God’s Word. He will mold and shape your heart and through Him you will radiate and shine.
